Recharge + Telltale

Connect Recharge and Telltale can see the difference between a customer who chose to leave and one whose card simply expired. Those need opposite responses, and telling them apart is where most subscription retention goes wrong.

What Telltale reads

  • Failed and retried charges
  • Paused and skipped subscriptions
  • Cancellations, including ones scheduled for period end
  • Plan changes and renewal dates

What it changes

A failed charge is not a churn signal in the usual sense — the customer still wants the product. Telltale's analytics separate that involuntary loss from genuine disengagement, so a billing problem gets a billing fix instead of a discount you did not need to give.

Pauses and skips are treated as the early warnings they are. A subscriber who skips twice in a row is telling you something well before they cancel.

Campaigns it powers

Payment Rescue fires the hour a charge fails, with no offer attached, because price was never the objection. Keep Your Subscription handles customers heading toward a voluntary cancel — a genuinely different conversation about value.

Setting it up

Paste your Recharge API key in Telltale's integrations page. Telltale registers for the lifecycle events it needs and backfills recent history. Read-only — it never changes a subscription.
